Pecha Kucha. The idea is simple. It’s a short, concise presentation and the aim is to share your thoughts, ideas or work with an audience. It will however, come in a strict format. Twenty images and twenty seconds per image. The images advance automatically, so it’s auto-forward and no way back!
Launched for the first time in Tokyo in 2003 as a network event for young designers to demonstrate their projects in public, it is now a global concept with active gatherings in over 900 cities, including Geneva! Pecha Kucha nights are popular. Not only because the events are informal and are a great way to meet new people, it’s strength also lies in the fact that it provides a public space for people who want to pitch their ideas and projects. The latest Geneva edition on November the 30th was hosted by the Impact Hub Geneva. With ten speakers, partly French, partly English, it promised to be a divers and interesting event!
The pitches
The opening was kicked-off by Nicholas Davis, Head of Society & Innovation, and Member of the Executive Committee at World Economic Forum. Nicholas shared his insights on how to keep the future human-centred in a technology driven future and made the audience think about our future world.
Right after, Perrine and Vincent from Afrodyssée, an organisation that brings together the best of African trends, presented their organisation and it’s activities. For more info click here.
The audience also got the opportunity to “meet” Dragon, a HERO rat, who can detect landmines and tuberculosis thanks to his amazing sense of smell. Anne Bouchier gave the audience a beautiful presentation about the work that Apopo Foundation is doing outside of Europe to help save peoples lives!
A special surprise was the speech of Dan Stein, co-founder of Cuisine Lab, a community of locals and newcomers, which uses the love of food and cooking as a catalyst for intercultural exchange and integration. Dan ended his presentation with a song, made the audience stand and sing together and provided some super tasty traditional finger food snacks for everybody who was curious to know about the Cuisine Lab food!
Round two
After the food break, it was time for a second round! Bérénice Kafui took us on a journey into the world of flowers. Gib Bulloch made us think about the power of intrapreneurship by sharing his personal experiences. Imagine if we as individuals, had the power to change the world of business? What can we do about our own influence and our power to change business from within?
The audience was laughing with Florian Parini who pitched his project Pousse-pouce, a Geneva based association that wants to promote car lifting and alternative traveling. Interesting were Chantel and Max who presented their travel agency that offers travel experiences from another perspective: filling your life with experiences instead of things. With them you will have the opportunity to see the best of Geneva and Switzerland in a personal and original way!
If you want to support more local initiatives, you should follow Marcel from Pique-niques urbains. You can host a picnic literally just about everywhere ;)! Just ask Marcel for ideas! The final pitch was given by Krista Kaufmann, who shared a beautiful story with the audience about the history of the Impact Hub Geneva.
This evening showed us the diversity and the creativity of people living in Geneva who where willing to pitch their ideas and share them with others. With so many inspiring pitches and a full house we can only support future events!

Les soirées Pecha Kucha sont populaires. Non seulement parce que les événements sont informels et sont un excellent moyen de rencontrer de nouvelles personnes, sa force réside également dans le fait qu’il offre un espace public pour les personnes qui souhaitent présenter leurs idées et leurs projets. La dernière édition genevoise du 30 novembre était hébergée par l’ Impact Hub Geneva . Avec dix intervenants, en partie français, en partie anglais, cela promettait d’être un événement divers et intéressant !
Les emplacements
L’ouverture a été lancée par Nicholas Davis , responsable de la société et de l’innovation et membre du comité exécutif du Forum économique mondial. Nicholas a partagé ses idées sur la façon de garder l’avenir centré sur l’humain dans un avenir axé sur la technologie et a fait réfléchir le public sur notre monde futur.
Dans la foulée, Perrine et Vincent d’ Afrodyssée , association qui rassemble le meilleur des tendances africaines, ont présenté leur association et ses activités. Pour plus d’informations, cliquez ici.
Le public a également eu l’occasion de “rencontrer” Dragon, un rat HÉROS , qui peut détecter les mines antipersonnel et la tuberculose grâce à son incroyable odorat. Anne Bouchier a fait au public une belle présentation sur le travail que la Fondation Apopo fait en dehors de l’Europe pour aider à sauver des vies !
Une surprise particulière a été le discours de Dan Stein, co-fondateur de Cuisine Lab , une communauté d’habitants et de nouveaux arrivants, qui utilise l’amour de la nourriture et de la cuisine comme catalyseur d’échange et d’intégration interculturels. Dan a terminé sa présentation avec une chanson, a demandé au public de se lever et de chanter ensemble et a fourni des collations traditionnelles super savoureuses pour tous ceux qui étaient curieux de connaître la nourriture Cuisine Lab !
Deuxième round
Après la pause gourmande, c’était l’heure du second tour ! Bérénice Kafui nous a fait voyager dans le monde des fleurs. Gib Bulloch nous a fait réfléchir au pouvoir de l’intrapreneuriat en partageant ses expériences personnelles. Imaginez si nous, en tant qu’individus, avions le pouvoir de changer le monde des affaires ? Que pouvons-nous faire de notre propre influence et de notre pouvoir de changer les affaires de l’intérieur ?
Le public rigolait avec Florian Parini qui pitchait son projet Pousse-pouce , une association genevoise qui veut promouvoir le lifting des voitures et les déplacements alternatifs. Intéressant étaient Chantel et Max qui ont présenté leur agence de voyage qui propose des expériences de voyage sous un autre angle : remplir votre vie d’expériences plutôt que de choses. Avec eux, vous aurez l’occasion de voir le meilleur de Genève et de la Suisse d’une manière personnelle et originale !

Cette soirée nous a montré la diversité et la créativité des Genevois qui ont envie de pitcher leurs idées et de les partager avec les autres. Avec autant de pitchs inspirants et une salle comble, nous ne pouvons que soutenir les événements futurs !
